JZJ History

JZJ Insurance Services was founded in 2019 by Jack Johnstone who, at the time, already had over 30 years of trade credit insurance experience.  Starting with a small base of clients, in just one year JZJ grew to over 70 clients with total insured sales of nearly $300,000,000, and our growth has continued ever since.

In 2020, JZJ was named the 2020 New Broker of the Year by the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM Bank) and has received Platinum Status, EXIM’s highest level of recognition, every year since.  We are among EXIM Bank’s largest and most active brokers, with clients spread across the entire United States. JZJ works with clients in numerous sectors of the economy, including agriculture, industrial machinery, automotive components, instrument manufacturing, and aerospace, just to name a few.

We believe that for too long, tailored broker services have only been available for America’s largest companies. JZJ now fills that need by providing specialized services to small- and medium-sized companies. We help experienced companies and those new to exporting find the proper credit insurance policy, and then we train each client so they can become experts with their individual policy. If the policy holder files a claim, we are there to assist them in the process and remain in constant communication with both the insurer and the insured. Additionally, we work with clients and their banks, so they may gain access to receivable-based financing.

At JZJ, we not only pride ourselves on educating our policy holders and banks, but we strive to educate the next generation of trade credit insurance professionals.  We have created a part-time, paid internship program which offers a valuable training opportunity for recent college graduates.  One of these interns has now become a permanent, full-time member of the JZJ team.

JZJ and
EXIM Bank

Jack Johnstone, JZJ founder and President, served as a founding member of EXIM Bank’s Broker Advisory Council, which was formed to advise EXIM Bank policy makers and senior management on issues of importance to the community of credit insurance brokers and EXIM Bank clients.

EXIM Bank is open for global coverage in 148 countries, and we educate our clients on the opportunities provided by EXIM Bank to expand their sales internationally. We find that many American companies hesitate to sell to customers in developing countries due to the perception of risk or lack of secure payment terms. Once American exporters are aware that they may securely sell to customers in these countries, they are able to explore new avenues for increasing sales. This is especially true in Latin America, where American exporters have an advantage due to proximity, and is becoming increasingly true in Asia and Africa.

One of the impediments companies face when trying to expand export sales involves the unwillingness of lenders to include foreign receivables in a company’s borrowing base.  JZJ Insurance Services speaks frequently with banks to ensure they understand the security provided by trade credit insurance, the financial strength of EXIM Bank backed by the U.S. government, the process of filing a claim, the steps involved in the claims process, and an understanding of how claims may be paid following a default. These discussions facilitate our clients working with their banks, developing confidence in credit insurance to secure foreign receivables and have them included in a company’s borrowing base.
